Welcome To bwpianostudio!

Building Confident, Well-Rounded Pianists of All Ages. Personalized lessons designed to accelerate progress, nurture creativity and inspire a passion for music.

Welcome to BW Piano Studio!

I work with students of all ages who have a passion for piano. weekly private lessons tend to have the best results when it comes to learning.

Core Areas of Study

My lessons are designed to help students build a strong and lasting foundation in music.

Areas of emphasis include:

-Developing healthy practice habits and effective techniques

-Strengthening sight-reading and note-reading skills

-Building a natural, relaxed approach to technique and tone through scales, chords, arpeggios, and etudes

-Understanding music theory in practical ways

-Refining and polishing repertoire through musicianship and performance training

Performance & Events

Throughout the year, students may participate in a wide variety of events such as the Sonatina Competition, Fall Festival Concertos, Monster Concert, Bach Festival, Spring Festival, Certificate of Achievement, and other local competitions. Recitals will also be held once or twice a year. Students are expected to participated in recitals. Lessons are year round and through summer.

Why piano ?

The study of music develops a remarkable set of skills that extend far beyond the piano bench. These benefits last a lifetime, regardless of whether a student becomes a professional musician. Piano study fosters:

  • Acute perception and refinement of aural, visual, and tactile awareness

  • Growth in abstract and conceptual thinking

  • Coordination between mind and body through physical training

  • Emotional expression, creativity, and individuality

  • Resilience through the preparation, challenges, and triumphs of performance

Taken together, these skills create an unmatched educational experience that begins with the very first lesson and deepens with every musical milestone.

Expectations for piano lessons ( parents and students )

Investing in Quality Teaching

The very first lessons matter the most. A strong foundation sets students up for success, while poor habits are hard to undo later. I encourage families to think of piano lessons as an investment—one that pays off for years to come.

Materials & Fees

Each student will need method books, sheet music, and occasionally festival or competition entries. On average, families should expect about $100 per year in extra materials. I’ll always guide you to the best resources and let you know ahead of time when new books are needed.

Time & Scheduling

Progress at the piano takes consistency. Weekly lessons (30–60 minutes) are only the beginning—students also need daily practice at home. For young children, having too many other activities can make piano feel overwhelming. Striking a healthy balance between piano and other commitments gives students the best chance to succeed and enjoy learning.

Having the Right Instrument

To make real progress, students need a well-maintained acoustic piano / keyboard at home. A quality instrument makes all the difference in developing touch, tone, and artistry. I recommend regular tunings (about every 6 months) and keeping the piano in a quiet, distraction-free space where practice can be focused.

Parent’s Role

Parents are an important part of the process—especially in the early years. Sitting with your child for practice, encouraging consistency, and showing interest in what they’re learning makes a world of difference. Piano is most rewarding when it’s a team effort between teacher, student, and family.

Practice Habits

The most successful students practice a little every day rather than cramming on weekends. Setting a regular routine—right after school or first thing in the morning—makes practice smooth and stress-free. Steady effort always leads to faster progress and greater confidence.

Interest & Motivation

Every child’s enthusiasm will rise and fall over time, and that’s normal. My role as a teacher is to keep lessons inspiring, while parents can support by encouraging practice and celebrating progress. With patience and structure, music becomes not just an activity, but a lifelong passion.

A Family Commitment

Piano lessons are more than just weekly instruction—they’re a family commitment. It may mean rearranging schedules, adjusting routines, or creating a quiet practice space. These efforts are always worth it. The reward is a student who develops discipline, confidence, and a skill that will enrich their life forever.

About Me

I began playing piano at the age of five and my passion for music has only grown stronger over the years. After moving to Boise to continue my piano studies, I quickly became involved in the local music community and earned recognition in competitions such as the Sonatina Festival, concerto competitions, the Steinway Competition, and multiple scholarship programs.

At the age 16, I began studying under Dr. Del Parkinson at Boise State University, where I continued through college level. These experiences deepened my understanding of classical piano and shaped me into both a performer and an educator. I studied piano performance at BSU for a few years and decided that teaching was my passion.

music is a gift that brings people together and my goal is to share that joy with students of all ages. Whether nurturing a young beginner or guiding an advanced pianist, I strive to make lessons effective, engaging, and tailored to each student’s goals. My approach balances structure with creativity, ensuring students stay motivated. For them to enjoy the process and develop a lifelong skill.
